Hi – I wonder if you can help? I visited Cape Borda Light station in 2009, from the UK. Among my photos is one of a picture which I think must have been on the wall in the museum. It shows the cannon, on its red base, with some flags, and with a huge cloud of grey smoke behind it – like a volcanic eruption! I can’t now recall what event this recorded. Do you have any ideas?
Many thanks
Helen
Hi Helen, I think the photo was taken during the 2007 bushfire. There were many photos taken at the time – many of them looked like this: http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2007/12/13/va1237282243588/fire-5798716.jpg
Cape Borda lighthouse was lucky to escape unharmed.
Thank you for your query.
Fantastic Lucy! – yes that must have been it. Must have been terrifying to be on KI at the time.
Isn’t the internet amazing – I was sitting here in the UK puzzling over my photo and thought “maybe if I Google I can find a copy of the image?” and better than that I found your blog, about the very place I was interested in. Before the internet, what would have been the chances of that!?
(I tried to find a way of attaching my photo to the post, but failed, but I’m sure you are correct.)
Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
Best wishes, Helen.
